On Trump's threat to dismantle NOAA

These days, my mornings start early.

My routine is simple: I start the coffee, let the dog out, read the WSJ and the NY Times, scan social media, and then let the dog back in.

It's not always in that order (Benji marches to his own drum), but that’s the general flow.

This past Sunday morning, I read a surprisingly thoughtful NY Times opinion piece by Dr. Ryan Maue, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) chief scientist during the previous Trump administration.

I almost did a spit-take.

Given Ryan’s tenure as part of Trump’s former administration, my (unfair) expectation prepared me for a red-hot and partisan screed against the deep-state weather forecasters within NOAA and the National Weather Service (NWS).

I was wrong.

As noted, Ryan was NOAA’s chief scientist during the last Trump administration. He currently authors the terrific substack newsletter Weather Trader, a must-read for weather geeks.
